The qualified individual will be responsible for the expansion, augment and maintenance of the fiber optic network. This role requires an organized, efficient and quality execution of all engineering, permitting, contracting, documenting, relocating and optimizing activities related to the Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) assets. Complexity and variety of assigned responsibility will grow with experience and performance.

Job Description

  • Prepare project timelines, regularly provides status updates and mitigates potential delays related to assignments and escalates as appropriate.

  • Responsible for learning all the systems and applications required to perform the job function adequately.

  • Responds to requests for information/escalations.

  • Maintains fiber splice records, network topography records, fiber mapping and finalized as-builts.

  • Audits OSP records for accuracy, ensures real-time OSP record updates and consolidates other historical records.

  • Responsible for ordering and tracking of company or vendor sourced materials.

  • Ensure minimum stocking levels are maintained and timely receipt and organization of incoming materials.

  • Managing test set inventory, tracking, maintenance, and defined area needs.

  • Working with vendors, Vendor Management and Procurement to resolve issues regarding purchase order requisitions, change orders and invoice payment status.

  • Managing various budgets to include, but not limited to, new construction, recurring permits, right-of-way and route maintenance/protection.

  • Responsible for gathering and tracking information supporting damage claims and cost recovery activity.

  • Maintaining financial accruals and forecasts.

  • Conducting formal meetings and presentations regarding engineering and construction plans for the receipt of pricing proposals or bids for larger entities, municipalities, and government entities.

  • Partnering with Network Planning and Sales to determine budgets and justification for proposed Expansions.

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate disposition of fiber verification requests, estimates, surveys, site walks (pre and post construction), time accounting and other various workflows.

  • Develop and define plans for the implementation or change of outside plant network that are most feasible and economical.

  • Complete engineering tasks like screening held orders, engineering small subdivisions, building entrance cables, obtaining permits and read/redline construction drawings.

  • Monitors infrastructure builds and reviews/punch lists and approve work meets industry construction standards.

  • Works closely with internal partners, other carriers, local/ state agencies, building owners/landlords, developers, builders or customers on new building adds and relocations.

  • Apply approved technologies and architectures to specific requirements.

  • Maintains the security of the outside fiber plant (OSP) network, either aerial and/or underground, throughout area of responsibility by managing cable location, locating contractors and initiating protection activities.

  • Builds/maintains professional relationships with contractors/subcontractors for engineering, permitting or construction of OSP infrastructure and route protection.

  • Complete vendor assessments in a timely and constructive manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications or similar field of study.

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

  • 1 – 2 years’ work experience.

  • Strong analytic, leadership and presentation skills.

  • Able to complete assignments on time and within budget.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.

  • Must maintain network / site security, cleanliness and follow all policies related to company property.

  • Employee is also expected to lift and/or move heavy objects, frequently weighting up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to perform a wide spectrum of complex assignments requiring alternative analysis, innovation and judgment.

  • Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.

  • Ability to work well independently or within a group.

  • Possess a valid state vehicle operator's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with applicable state law(s) and fleet/vehicle safety program. Follow all company policies regarding motor vehicle usage.

  • On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis, on stand-by, call out, dispatch, and overtime are required as dictated by the business.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous construction experience

  • Familiarity with fiber optic networks

  • SQL, accounting, CAD, software development/scripting and/or GIS spatial skills/experience

Working Conditions:

  • Work is occasionally performed in building settings.

  • Outdoor work is required in the inspection of buried cable, construction sites, field facilities.

  • Performance of the position requires working safely and may require working outdoors in all weather conditions, all noise levels, hazardous conditions, and on the full range of outdoor work surfaces.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Follow all personal safety policies and procedures.
