Job Summary

Applies advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts and technologies to solve unusually complex problems and issues. Leads the development, evaluation and implementation of new and innovative principles, processes and applications.

Essential Duties

  • Identify, resolve, and/or escalate network issues according to procedural documentation and training

  • Creative problem-solving to identify the source of problems

  • Create or update documentation including network diagrams, procedures, and policies to ensure consistent support of customer environments

  • Through customer consultation, realize growth opportunities for production customer environments.

  • Provide guidance to adjacent support tiers to assist in resolution of complex network, system and security incidents

  • Provide and obtain timely updates to/from relevant parties (internal and external)

  • Provide consultative assistance to the Operations Center during off hours as needed

  • Review system and network configurations with Service Delivery to ensure successful implementation of services into production

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Works closely with Fiber Management and P&OM organizations for dark fiber reservations

  • Conducts and/or coordinates fiber characterization for all new builds and newly reserved dark fiber


  • Skilled in Transport Optical and Data equipment;

  • Must be familiar with IP, OTN, Comsec, DWDM, Power and installation

  • Skillsets in the following disciplines: Analytical and troubleshooting skills; Proficient with circuit test sets, OTDR’s, Optical Spectrum Analyzer; Work with COMSEC/Crypto Gear

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Must possess considerable business acumen

  • Ability to quickly adapt to advancing technologies and procedural changes

  • Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other technologists and business partners to maintain high service levels in a demanding environment

  • Ability to work well in team environment

  • Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills

Desired skills:

  • Hands on experience with one or more of the following: Equipment installation, power, OSP, Fiber optic fusion splicing, testing, turn-up, and maintenance

  • Technical certifications in areas of expertise

  • Project Management

Education or Equivalent Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in related fields

  • Certificates of training in associated fields/equipments

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in related field.


  • TS/SCI is required.
