The Sr Engineer ISP performs applied research, development, and design of Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), power and timing systems.
Manages a laboratory facility and supports testing of Method of Procedures (MOPs), operation simulations, and Tier 3 maintenance activities which include:
A fully documented laboratory baseline and specific recommendations for enhancements
MOP examples indicating the insertion and deletion of a Cisco MSTP network node into the network
Provides training support to enhance trouble-shooting skills of ISP and NOC technicians:
Specific training includes advanced Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) and Carrier Ethernet and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) troubleshooting classes
Knowledge of Cisco MSTP, MSPP and MSSP
Provide the delivery of written training materials
Creates and evaluates testing documentation for future hardware and software releases as required before network implementation ─ supports lab testing of these features such as 40G and 100G, enhanced chassis, and Carrier Ethernet
Evaluate equipment and associated network performance, and recommend network improvements and design changes
Handle moderately complex engineering assignments.
Work closely with the Government and suppliers on requirements, design, and proposal development
Provide functional guidance, supervision, technical support, training, and quality assurance/control as required
Creates, updates, and reviews technical documentation
BS in Engineering or equivalent work experience (eight years of progressively challenging telecommunications experience)
Demonstrated experience with SONET based, metro fiber networks, next-generation DWDM systems and Carrier Ethernet based systems
Previous experience with broadband circuit maintenance/restoration, provisioning databases and circuit activations
Prior experience with Cisco, Ciena or Tellabs suite of optical network equipment and network management systems
Demonstrated leadership profile to oversee shift personnel, first level escalations, and professional interaction skills with customers and management
Ability to relate technical issues to management and Government personnel.
Good verbal and presentation skills
US Citizenship required
Active TS/SCI with Poly
Must maintain eligibility requirements for access to classified information (applicants selected will be subject to a government security re-investigation)
Must have a valid driver’s license have a clean driving record
Some local travel required
