Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Lead Security Architect, to join the Global Security organization. In this role, you will be a part of a team that builds security products to protect the world’s largest companies, governments, and millions of homes from advanced security threats – while maximizing our competitiveness in the market. We are looking for a skilled security expert with broad and deep understanding of technical concepts, experience in design of customer facing products and motivation to own the development of best security solutions.

Job Description

  • Develop architectures to evolve the Managed Security Services portfolio and drives the implementation through collaboration with the Product Development and Marketing organizations as well as the Engineering and Operations to implement future architectures.

  • Integrate knowledge and resources across technical disciplines and functional boundaries, to recommend strategy, advance technology and direct development of innovative security solutions.

  • Recognized as a subject matter expert within and outside of the Company.

  • Work with Corporate Strategy to identify key technology and service trends in the market and influence the roadmap to conceptualize new products and features.

  • Lead architectural approval and security certification processes as needed.

  • Develop and maintains partnerships with key equipment suppliers, with current vendors and with potential future suppliers.

  • Provide requirements, guidance, and vision to the vendor community in order to cultivate the appropriate combination of technology and feature capabilities to meet CenturyLink current and future architectural targets.

  • Responsible for technology selection process to include requirements consolidation into RFI/RFP/RFQ, technology recommendation, Proof-of-Concept testing/Prototyping and Technology Selection.

  • As a technical advisor, support customer solution designs and meetings to provide subject matter expertise when in-depth technical material is needed or to present the future-looking architecture roadmap.

  • Responsible for generating high quality technical documentation and configurations to support architecture and solution designs, with the ability to articulate and convey concepts and details


  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in a technical role, including 3+ years in a key security architectural design development

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience

  • Confident and mature individual with a high degree of energy, enthusiasm and a can do attitude to achieve outstanding, timely, and quality results and operate at the highest levels of excellence and process efficiency.

  • Experience in architectural level design of security services, infrastructure and endpoint security including integration architecture with the IP network elements.

  • Intimate knowledge of security technology landscape and platforms as well as service provider edge/core devices, service enabling devices, ethernet switch vendors, etc.

  • Working experience in security architecture design, with demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Access control and firewalls/UTM devices including Web Application Firewall (WAF), Web Content Filtering, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDS/IPS) systems, Remote Network Access (IPsec VPN, SSL), Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam (AV/AS), Email and Messaging Security

  • Distributed Denial of Service Architecture (DDoS), Flow and Application Monitoring

  • Understanding of Integrated network architectures, cloud technologies

  • Solid understanding of best practices in Internet backbone network and services design, including design understanding of VPN/VPLS services.

  • Knowledge of SD-WAN and SDN platforms and implementation designs. Experience with related security functionality is strongly preferred.

  • Good interpersonal and communications skills along with the ability to handle an interrupt driven, fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability to present Architecture vision and strategy to all levels of leadership and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates Company’s values, maintains a positive open demeanor, encourages different points of view; provides timely information; communicates context for business decisions; fosters teamwork and collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working experience with Managed Security Services platforms and solutions as well as large service provider edge/core network and security designs, engineering and support processes

  • Professional/technical certifications, such as CISSP, CISM or CISA

  • Experience working with government programs and contractors – security clearance is desirable

  • Knowledge of project management, network planning and implementation practices
